Just finished watching this show on Netflix (5 seasons with a 6th to come). Not for the faint of heart with a lot of violence and some gore and sex. It reminds me some what of Gangs of New York. It takes place during the 1920's in Birmingham, UK and is about a gang family that claws and scrapes their way to the top. Lots of excellent characters, music, plot lines, drama and  moments.

Sounds like Torchwood.  On the BBC 3 the show's first season was full of the sex, violence and talk.  Season two saw it move to BBC 2 a milder channel.  Third season and fourth season it was on BBC and had to be careful with presentation.  Then Starz opted a season and it went down the tubes.  I could cut an hour and a half from that 9 episode and make the show so much better.
