March 20 Recap---Beatles songs
« on: March 21, 2013, 10:58:11 AM »
I had to haul out my pad and paper and do a recap on this one. My favorite of all time, Beatles Songs. And they dellivered, even though more than one contestant had NEVER HEARD OF ANY OF THE SONGS! (Sacrilege!)

Ryan informs that there are 9 contenders left and that the sing off winner from last week is Aubrey, which means buh-bye Charllie.

First up was Kree Harrision singing --(I Get By With) a Little Help From My Friends
Keith--bluesy, soulful, all cool things about country
Nickie--made it your own, always good song choices
Randy--da bomb
Mariah--fan-freakin'-tastic

Burnell Taylor singing--Let It Be
Nicki--caressed the song, felt like I was in church
Randy--made it your own
Mariah--heartfelt, genuine performance
Keith--soulful tone, from a spiritual place

Amber Holcomb singing--She's Leaving Home
Randy--started slow and then hit power notes
Mariah--you didn't know the song but were fearless
Keith--you made a 46 year old song sound fresh (oh my, has it been that long)?
Nickie--amazing vocal, but toughen up, don't let us see you don't know the song

Lazaro Arbos singing--My Life
Mariah--brave for doing it, you showed courage
Keith--key too low
Nickie--wants old Lazaro back, too nervous, need the right key
Randy--your worst performance ever, out of tune beginning to end, where did the vocals go

Candice Glover singing--Come Together
Keith--loved rock chick side of her, killing it
Nickie--liked vocal, needs to keep attitude in her face
Randy--voice is crazy, loved uptempo playful sound
Mariah--prizefighter, murdered the song (in a good way)

Paul Jolley singing--Eleanor Rigby
Nickie--safe, bland, forgettable
Randy--disconnected, never got into it
Mariah--need to get more emotion into it, do something uptempo next
Keith--not a fan of the falsetto at the end, liked pop/rock edge he gave it in the middle

Angie Miller singing--Yesterday
Randy--stellar performance, don't be afraid to show your rock edge
Mariah--agrees, did a respectful version of the song yet showed your voice
Keith--liked to see she was in the song at all times
Nickie--unbelievable, amazing--bleep, bleep, bleep--good key, showed range, can do anything with your voice--Broadway, sound tracks for Disney

Devin Velez singing--The Long and Winding Road
Mariah--Wow, don't have words, that was just so good
Keith--missing a little emotional connection
Nickie--disagrees with Keith, liked that he was emotionally connected, very truthful
Randy--Devin is back tonight, brought swagger back, great

Janelle Arthur singing--I Will
Keith--country presence in voice, pure, true, beautiful
Nickie--great, obsessed with her, subtle performance, mellow, sweet, authentic
Randy--Janelle is back, one of the best performances of the night, subtlety amazing
Mariah--still so sweet and gorgeous, beautiful, elegant performance

It was a very enjoyable show. But I am such a big Beatles fan that it would have been hard not to like what they were doing. It looks like Paul and Lazaro are in trouble. Maybe Amber (for me, anyway). Some very beautiful voices sang some of my very favorite songs. If nothing else, I am now committed to watching the rest of the season.

Thanks Ponytail, I didn't get to see the show last night.  Sounds fantastic.  I will have to listen to them sing online.
I hope Lazaro isn't voted off.
My favorite so far is Angie Miller.
It is unbelievable that some of them had never heard of the songs!  Did their parents lock them in their rooms and take away all the ways they could listen to music?

Yeah Snowbird, it is hard to believe some of them had never heard the songs, they are just so young. Keith was funny--every comment he made of the contestants started with--that's my favorite Beatles song! I like that he loves the songs as much as I do. As he said, it is hard to believe that it has been 46 years since some of them were written.

Angie has such a beautiful voice, crystal clear, so pure and such a wide range. She did a fabulous job.

I don't know if Lazaro can be saved. He really didn't do well at all last night.

I haven't really been able to watch the shows yet, didn't see last nights, either but, I have it taped.
Thanks ponytail for your wonderful write up...
And, I know just from my own children when I mention different artists and songs... they don't know the people I'm talking about.
I feel sorry for the young people of today that they don' have the type of groups to follow that we had....Beatles, Four seasons....and I could go on and on . -Dancekick-
