March 27 Recap--Music From the Motor City
« on: March 27, 2013, 11:29:25 PM »
I LOVE MOTOWN--really looking forward to what they have to show us. Ryan informs us that (THE GREAT) Smokey Robinson will be helping Jimmy coach the idols this week.

First up is Candice Glover singing Marvin Gaye's 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine.'

Keith--raised the bar, didn't overdo it
Mariah--epitomize what this competition is, soulful r and b, gritty and pretty
Nickie--exciting, stayed in it completely, a rocky bluesy thing
Randy--loved she was so comfortable, amazing job, effortless, crazy good

Ryan informs us that the idols are teaming up tonight, and that the first team is Kree and Janelle singing Madonna's 'Like a Prayer'.

Nickie-- raves on and on over Kree, says Janelle was okay
Randy--Kree effortless, outshined Janelle, Janelle was pitchy
Mariah--felt a sisterhood moment between the two of them
Keith--worked really well, both sounded great, would like to see them move around more

Ryan has a little chat with Smokey

Lazaro Arbos singing Stevie Wonder's 'For Once in My Life'

Randy--far better than last week, not perfect pitchwise, a little disconnected
Mariah--smart choice, pitch problems, courage and guts came back, listened to critiques
Keith--you shine when you do what you feel is right, much better vocally
Nickie--definitely back, Fonzie, you gave it tonite, great job, see what happens when you don't listen to Jimmy

Janelle Arthur singing The Supremes' 'You Keep Me Hanging On'

Mariah--you at your finest
Keith--beautiful, love your fearlessness, arrangement brought out the angst in the song
Nickie--you shine with your guitar, your voice is not how it normally is though
Randy--incredible, in it to win it

Devin Velez singing The Miracles' 'Tracks of My Tears

Keith--moments of style, need to relax into it
Nickie--lookin' like a ripe banana and that's a good thing, amazing, (you can tell) felt comfortable for you, YES SIR!
Randy--Devin is back, one of best performances in weeks
Mariah--loved it, flawless, I hope America understands how good that was
(Ryan has one more judge)
Smokey--you were awesome, great job

The trio of Amber, Angie, Candice sings The Supremes' 'I'm Gonna Make You Love Me'

They receive a standing ovation from all 4 judges

Mariah--so wow! we heard all of your voices, moments from all of you A+mazing

Burnell Taylor singing Stevie Wonder's 'My Cherie Amour'

Nickie--yessir, you reminded us why we fell in love with your voice, rich, soulful
Randy--love your choices, so smart, listened to Smokey, in it to win it, too
Mariah--really good job, gave it a little modern flavor
Keith--so original, love it all

Angie Miller singing The Miracles' 'Shop Around'

Randy--strange one, first time ever, such a pitchy performance, not great
Mariah-- would rather hear her at the piano, this is not what you do best
Keith--pitchy, the melody kept pulling you down, but your talent is undeniable
Nickie--you tried to show a different side of you that didn't need to be done, do what you shine at

Ryan tells us that tomorrow night we will be treated to songs from One Republic featuring Katherine McPhee and Colton Dixon as well as a song from Keith Urban

Amber Holcomb singing Stevie Wonder's 'Lately'

standing ovation from all 4 judges

Mariah--and that was a tour de force, it was ***bleep*** impeccable, so good, beautiful
Keith--right song, sang it beautifully, felt it, mesmerizing
Nickie--out of this world, you are something, very, very special
Randy--by far, for me, the best vocal of the night--amazing

Burnell, Devin and Lazaro singing the Four Tops' 'Can't Help Myself' (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)

Nickie--Wow, don't know what that was but I'm gonna act like I didn't see that or hear it, Lazaro you were as flat as a pancake, GO, GO (to all of them) get off the stage

Kree Harrison singing Aretha Franklin's 'Don't Play That Song'

Mariah--slight country infusion, commend you for doing it, for doing the queen of soul
Keith--love how you remind people of the blues and soul roots that are in country music
Randy--yo Kree, not a perfect performance, but you are definitely here to stay
Nickie--you did a 'queen song' , confidence never wavers, you're a queen, too

And that's all the further my dvr recorded. (My hubby probably had Pawn Stars in the queue)!

But we didn't miss much, usually they ask the judges who is in trouble. I would say the worst performances tonight were Angie's and Lazaro's.
