April 10 Recap--Two Themes
« on: April 10, 2013, 10:38:23 PM »
Six remain, and tonight they will each sing 2 songs to 2 different themes. Songs from the Burt Bacharach/Howell David catalogue, and songs they wish they had written.

Each Idol tells us 'Something you don't know about me'.

Angie tells us she does hilarious embarassing videos and loves hardcore music.
Angie Miller sings Anyone Who Had a Heart

Keith--don't rely on your voice alone, missing the passion, missing humanity
Nickie--agrees, amazing vocal, old-fashioned
Randy--agrees, you have to digest the lyric like you wrote it
Mariah--your pronounciation is so perfect, you need to let go of the perfection and immerse in the song

Ryan tells us the American Idol has been inducted into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame

Amber tells us she likes to eat frozen shrimp right out of the bag.
Amber Holcomb sings Say a Little Prayer For You

Nickie--Oh, oh, oh my gosh, bowing down for you little girl, you are unbelievable
Randy--Yo, yo, yo, the competition just started, Amber is trying to win, got the confidence, Amber has arrived
Mariah--genius transitions, took a chance, stellar performance, top of the world, A+mazing
Keith--love that you never overperform, effortless, summer breeze blew in, beautiful

Lazaro loves to ride 4 wheelers and go hunting, he's a Spanish redneck.
Lazaro Arbos sings Close To You

Randy--Uh, wow, speechless, that was horrible, no, no, no, worst performance you've ever had
Mariah--Here's the thing, at this point in the competitiion, (she's at a loss for words so you can tell how bad it was)
Keith--Your fans will still love you after tonite, the key was too low, didn't catch the key change
Nickie--pretend I already gave my comment or we'll be here until tomorrow
(time ran out)

Kree loves rodeos.
Kree Harrison sings What the World Needs Now

Keith--I feel the genuine compassion for people you have in your voice, your humanity, the best you've ever sung
Mariah--you know who you are, perfect for your voice, not trying to produce an emotional response--it's natural
Nickie--voice is so sweet, humble, if you're not performing at the Country Music Awards next year then my name's not Nickie (something, something) Minaj
Randy--listen, this is singing, this is a singing show, this girl can sing

Janelle played a boy in a school play in the 8th grade
Janelle Arthur sings I'll Never Fall in Love Again

Keith--that was good, I always feel like I see a new side of you every week
Nickie--that performance was really boring
Randy--not your best, lackluster
Mariah--liked the simple way you started, love your effervescense

Candice speaks Geechi (a Jamaican dialect?)
Candice Glover sings Don't Make Me Over

Standing ovation (this girl blows the rest away)
Nickie--goodness gracious, committed wholeheartedly, made me want to have a woman's revival, born to do this, exquisite
Randy--this is the best vocal of the night, emotional, so good
Mariah--100% agree. took a classic, kept it current, kept it you, exquisite
Keith--set the bar really high, became in my top 3

The top 6 contestants sing the songs they wish they had written.

Angie Miller sings Love Came Down--Kari Jobe

Randy--lovedd that for so many reasons, you belong at the piano
Mariah--that piano and you, you never lose, perfect
Keith--you shine at the piano
Nickie--this is the only time you will be remembered at the top of the pack, don't stray from this

Amber Holcomb sings Love on Top--Beyonce

Mariah--happy, singing this song, enjoying yourself
Keith--beautiful, great song choice
Nickie--Beyonce you better look out, baby girl you have arrrived
Randy--yes, yes, yes, this girl is in it to win it

Lazaro Arbos sings Angels by Robbie Williams (This kid is so outclassed by every other contestant, not even close)

Keith--glad you chose that song, good elements to your tone, but the girls are singing so crazy good
Nickie--okay, yeah, what he said
Randy--slightly better, it's a girls' race
Mariah--This was a better range, redeemed something of yourself

Kree Harrison sings Help Me Make It Through the Night by Kris Kristofferson

Nickie--you're at the head of the class, believe the lyrics so much, something very, very special
Randy--kudos, natural, natural singer, you sell the story, ease, so beautiful, so nice
Mariah--that's how the song should be sung
Keith--buckle polisher right there, predict you will become a member of the Grand Ol' Opry, beautiful, baby

Janelle Arthur sings the Dance by Garth Brooks

Randy--did a good job
Mariah--true, loved it, felt you were singing from your heart
Keith--would have been great if you'd played your guitar
Nickie--such a sweet, sweet song, stepped it up vocally, still don't think it was enough to get a leg up over the other girls

Candice Glover sings Love Song by the Cure

Standing Ovation, bowing down, Mariah gets out of her chair and goes on stage to give her a salute

Randy--one of the greatest performances in 12 years of Idol history

Judges are all on their feet again.

There is no time left for any other comments. It was one of those terrific moments you rarely see on television. Mariah (I think it was) said it was one of the greatest performances of any talent show ever.

If you never watch American Idol, or even if you do and happened to miss it tonight, go back and watch Candice sing Love Song. Truly amazing, you can feel the electricity race through the audience.

Thank you, I have not been watching this season due to the judges but I did listen to "Love Song."  It was beautifully done.  Also loved this from the other night (my favorite band) she did a great job.

I have a lot of respect and admiration for Lazaro but watching his performance of "Close to You" was painful.  His voice was overmatched by the song and, even if he sang it well,  he couldn't help but fall short of Karen Carpenter, one of the purest, most beautiful singing voices I have ever heard.  Lazaro is done unless he receives a HUGE sympathy vote.

Candace brought the house down.  Idol has three women who can really sing.

Never thought I would say this, but Nickie has grown on me. She has had some really insightful critiques and is not afraid of telling it like it is. Mariah, such a diva, but such a sweetie, Keith is just down right nice, with a capitol NICE. Randy can leave anytime, everything he says is the same.
