Title: The Dan Debacle
Post by: Court on December 12, 2019, 10:24:30 AM
Several weeks ago we all saw the beginning of the fall out with Survivor player Dan and his inappropriate touching. In last nights episode he was expelled from the game for another inappropriate touching incident. This time it sounds like he touched a crew or production member. From what I have read he allegedly rubbed a female crew members leg when they were getting on the boat after the immunity challenge.

Personally, I think he should have been removed long before now. Kelee clearly told him in episode 1 that she didn’t like it when he was touching her and he continued to do so. They have it all on camera, so he clearly has an issue with it. If he couldn’t keep his hands to himself after being warned, I can’t help but wonder how inappropriate he is with women out in the real world.

Stopped in at Survivor Sucks and they're all abuzz about a new backlash over Dan. Sounds like a lot of this season's cast (and many alums) are siding with Dan and want to take his side at the Reunion, but now that CBS has decided to tape it rather then let it play out live there is a lot of talk (who can say at this point if its anything more than talk) about many S39 cast members no showing to the reunion to embarrass CBS in the only way they contractually can.

They're also saying and this is almost certainly true because CBS does it often with Big Brother live evictions, that the entire audience for the Survivor reunion/finale will be filled with CBS employees. So no fans and no former players will be allowed in. A real lock down kind of situation.

Personally I'd rather they just let the players talk. The truth will set you free. Hiding things and forcing contestants to keep quiet will only make the situation worse.

I agree, they should let the players talk, Dan included but apparently he will not be at the reunion. I don’t understand how they can defend him though, even if Kelee was the only one who felt uncomfortable she still asked him not to touch him but he continued to anyway. Either way, this would be a golden opportunity to really discuss this type of issue, and both Dan and Kelee could share their truth. In the very least, she deserves and opportunity to tell him how he feels.

From what I'm gathering on Twitter, there are two sides.  The side with Kellee doesn't want to admit that they planned to use that to get Dan out.  The whole thing has been blown out of proportion.

I read this on Sucks and copied it because it made more sense than most of the stuff people are saying about this...

Survivor has always let players deal with problems inside the game. that is what made the show so interesting. Dan and Kellee and whatever they did or didn't do is irrelevant. What matters is the Production intervened in the game. And by intervening in the game, they ruined it. From now on we will all have to question why Production did or didn't intervene at any given point.

Not too exciting a season for me.
I wouldn't' have known that it was taped or that so many former Survivors boycott the show .
I don't even care.
I am disappointed in the winner, too. I wanted Noura to win.

So now, we have another All Star cast in Feb. Rob vs "Amba" should be interesting . LOL

The three I preferred to win were the last three voted out.  With the ones left I was happy with the results.  I liked Tommy.  Noura talked so much I could not understand half of what she said.  I think the jury was tired of hearing her.  She was an interesting player though and brought something different to the game.

I am happy for Janet and Elaine.
I question the way CBS treated the Dan case as far as them putting Kellee on the spot.  She seemed so uncomfortable talking about it.  It seems that it was more for CBS's benefit than hers.

Yes, I think Kellee was put on the spot, too. She was so nervous and uncomfortable. It sounds like Survivor will take to heart some changes.
The 40 year winners war could be epic, or an epic failure. Sure hope we get a good season. It will be fun to see some of those players, most of whom I had forgotten about, duke it out!

Looking at the pictures there are a lot that I don't even remember and some I remember but did not remember that they actually won.  One that I noticed that wasn't on there was the young guy from Texas that won maybe ten years ago or more.  He was young, down to earth, very likable and helpful.  Can anyone help me out on who this was?

I'm with you, Snowbird. I think if anyone can answer your question it has to be our resident Survivor historian, Outlast!  :91: Outlast

You’re probably referring to JT who won season 18 in Tocantins. The only other Texan winner I know of off hand is Mike who won season 30.

My feelings on the cast are that I’m thrilled to see Ethan back. Always happy to see Sandra. Glad Sophie is back and Tyson as well. But there are a lot of disappointments. I’d love to see more old school winners in the cast, Tina, Brian Heidik and Vecepia seem like particularly annoying snubs. I’d like to see Cochran back. Even Richard Hatch who I don’t exactly love...hey he deserved a slot.

There are several winners I flat out dislike in Tony, Parvati and Sarah.

It’s a mixed bag really. Really mixed.

I would like to see Cochran and Richard Hatch back, too.

They can’t bring Richard back, his nakedness would go against everything they are trying to change.

Richard Hatch did this years ago. Offer him enough money and tell him he has to have pants on, I doubt he'd turn down another chance at playing for big money!

Survivor will air a retrospective episode ahead of the new winners season.

So do I assume that any winner that doesn’t get a segment can’t win WaW?

They’ve also changed their policy from anything goes minus physically attacking another contest (outside challenges designed for such) to...

the most recent season that forced the network to change policies and procedures around the show. (Spilo was also removed from the show.) This includes adding an on-site professional at the production level to offer confidential ways to report concerns about misconduct and behavior, as well as a new rule that finally explictly bars “unwelcome physical contact, sexual harassment and impermissible biases,” and “enhanced” pre-production training and meetings around harassment, unconscious bias and sensitivity for the cast, producers and crew.

Which to me sounds like the most anti Survivor policy you could write. Do they even remember the original premise of the show any more? 16 strangers left to fend for themselves and form a new society of their own making while surviving on a deserted island? What about Richard and Rudy? They worked together the whole game but now Rudy would be pulled from the game for saying queer and Richard would be pulled for being naked. Let’s not even mention what Sean called Rich (FNF). With this policy they’d have to pull about 20+ percent of past casts and the more entertaining 20+ percent at that.

Forcing people to be fake is bad TV.
