She put her hand on the knob, and slowly opened the door. Her companions stood, bored, wondering what the weird girl meant to show them in the broom cupboard. But then the door swung open and revealed not the expected brooms and mops, but an impossibly long hallway lined with doors. As the dazed girls crowded inside the hall they walked slowly down the corridor and looked at the doors. Each door was slightly different from the next. Some were wooden, some stone, some metal. Some were tall and skinny, while others were short and squat. Some had elaborate handles and some plain. The girls wondered over the marvelous and utterly impossible hall until the strange girl quieted them with a wave and asked them... to pick a door. The eldest girl, Diane, pushed forward. The choice, she felt, was hers. She put her hand on the knob, and slowly opened the door.
