Mother's Mercy
« on: June 14, 2015, 10:56:52 PM »
The ice and snow are melting at Stannis' camp after his great sacrifice. Mellisandre is not in favor with him right now, and she knows it. Stannis receives some bad news from one of his lieutenants--half of his men have deserted him, and they have taken all the horses. Another of his men rushes up and takes him to the forest where he sees Queen Sylese hanging from a tree, the thoughts of what she had done to her daughter too much for her to bear. Another messenger tells him that Lady Mellisandre was seen riding out of the camp. A stoic Stannis tells his men to get in march formation--on to Winterfell.
Jon is telling Sam about the white walkers, and the white walker king raising his hands and waking the dead--thousands of them. He tells Sam how his sword Longclaw, made of Valyrian steel was able to kill one of them. Sam asks Jon to send him, Gilly, and the babe to the Citadel to train to be a Maester so he can be of more use to him. Jon reluctantly agrees.
Stannis and his army have reached Winterfell.
Sansa is heading for the tower to light her candle, hoping she will be aided in her time of trouble.
Pod sees Stannis army approach and goes to tell Brienne who is keeping watch on the tower, hoping to see a signal from Sansa. But she leaves just before Sansa leaves her candle there.
Stannis on foot, and ready to lay seige to Winterfell, is surprised by a large force of mounted men led by Ramsey. The two forces collide. Sansa watches from the tower. It is a slaughter, and Stannis' army is quickly finished off by Ramsey. A wounded Stannis fights on, and kills two more attackers before he finally collapses against a tree, only to be faced by Brienne, who confronts him with his murder of Renly using blood magic. He tells her he did, and then Brienne finishes him off.
Ramsey gloats over the dead remains of Stannis' army, finishing off the wounded.
Sansa heads back from the tower, but runs into Ramsey's girlfriend Miranda and Reek. Miranda tells her how it is--she is no use to Ramsey dead, she is just to bear his children, she is ready to fire an arrow at her and wound her but not kill her when Theon finally gets a backbone and grabs Miranda and tosses her off the side of the walkway. They see that Ramsey has returned, and Theon grabs Sansa and they make a mad dash for the top of the castle wall, and then leap off.
Meryn Trant is beating one of his young whores senseless when she suddenly springs up and begins stabbing him in the face with a knife. It is Arya in one of her disguises. She taunts Trant, and lets him know who she is and why she is killing him--for Syrio Forel. She finishes him off brutally. Back at the House of Black and White, we see her putting the face she used back on the shelf, but she is confronted by Jaqen who tells her 'a girl has taken a llife, the wrong life' and that she is not ready, that man's life was not hers to take. She has stolen from the many faced god, and a debt is owed to him. Only death can pay for life, and with that Jaqen takes a vial of poison, and dies before Arya's eyes. She screams, but hears Jaqen's voice behind her, so reaches down to where his body is, and lifts off a false face, and then another and another until finally she sees her own face staring up at her with dead eyes. As she does so, her vision begins to dim, and then goes dark altogether.
Myrcella, Trystane and Jaime depart from Dorne. Ellaria and her Sand Snakes are there to say goodbye, and Ellaria gives her a kiss goodbye. On board the ship Jaime tries to tell Myrcella in a roundabout way that he is her father. But she already knows and is happy to be his daughter. She begins shaking, and blood begins to come from her mouth as she collapses in his arms. Ellaria watches the ship grow smaller and smaller from the dock. Her nose starts to bleed, and she takes a handkerchief and wipes it as well as her mouth. She reaches for small vial of liquid, swallows it, and turns to leave with her girls following her.
Tyrion, Daario, and Jorah are sitting in the throne room, stunned after the fight at the arena,  when a bandaged Grey Worm appears with Missendei (he didn't die after all, yay!) They agree that the dragon headed north and they must go and find Dani, but they think Tyrion should stay behind and keep Meereen under control with Grey Worm and Missendei at his side. Jorah and Daario set off to find Dani. Tyrion watches from above, and Varys approaches him. The two schemers have met up once more, and of course Varys has a network of 'little birds' to keep them informed of what is going on in Meereen and elsewhere. They look pleased to be teamed up once again.
Dani and Drogon are high in the hills north of Meereen. Drogon is nestled down in a pile of charred bones and is not moving for anything. She tries to get him in the air and heading back to Meereen but he will have none of it, so she starts out on her own. She walks a ways, and hears hoofbeats. Soon she is surrounded by dozens of men on horseback who quickly encircle her.
The High Sparrow is hearing Cersei's confession in the dungeon. She admits to having a relationship with Lancel, but nothing else. The High Sparrow asks her about the rumors that her children are bastards born of incest, but she denies and says there is not one shred of truth to that, it is all lies put about by Stannis. He tells her she will have a trial. Cersei begs him for one drop of mother's mercy--she needs to see her son. The High Sparrow says he will permit her to return to the Red Keep, and that she is free to go after her atonement. Cersei is scrubbed down, and her hair is shorn off with a razor. She is presented to the mob, her sins recited, stripped naked, and forced to march across town with a nun crying 'shame', and ringing a bell behind her. The mob is not kind. She is pelted with refuse and stones. By the time she reaches the other side of town she is filthy, bleeding, and her feet are raw. For most of her walk of shame, she is stone faced, but towards the end, she begins to break down, and when she finally reaches the Red Keep, she is a shell of herself. She is greeted by Maester Qyburn who introduces her to the newest member of the King's Guard--a huge 'Mountain' of a man dressed in golden armor. Qyburn tells her he has taken a holy vow of silence until all their enemies are dead.
Davos has reached Castle Black and is arguing with Jon over supporting Stannis when they see Mellisandre ride in. Davos asks of Shireen, but she ignores him and walks past. Jon is in his study, reading over his messages when Olly comes to tell him that his Uncle Benjen is still alive. Jon rushes out, and Ser Alliser leads him to him. All the men of the Night Watch are there, but a puzzled Jon does not see his Uncle Benjen. He turns, and one after another, starting with Ser Alliser, they stab him. Olly is the last to do so. Each time they finish with the words--For the Watch. Jon falls to the ground, and they leave him lying there, a pool of blood spreading out around him.
