Things I Memorized as a kid....
« on: September 04, 2022, 12:39:39 PM »
Here is part of a poem I still remember memorizing in 7th grade--it may not be all that accurate but it stuck with me all these years! What do you remember?

Blessings on thee little man,
Barefoot boy with cheeks of tan,
With thy turned up pantaloons,
And thy merry whistled tunes,
With thy red lips redder still,
Kissed by strawberries on the hill.

And in 8th grade:
The selfsame moment I could pray,
And from my neck so free,
The albatross fell off and sank
Like lead into the sea.

I would be interested in finding out what you remember memorizing!

Well, of course we memorized the time tables, and going to a Catholic school we memorized the entire catechism book. It was in a question and answer fomat in the book.  No kidding. This was around  11 or 12 for Confirmation , so if the Bishop called on us in Church that night we would know the answer. It was a lot of memorizing. And, boy were we nervous that night if he looked our way to call on us.
Then , the we memorized the Preamble of the Constitution , which I can recite today.
In French class we memorized and sang the French National anthem every day.

I'm sure there's more but. LOL, at my age I have forgotten.... -duh-

La Marseillaise! Yes, I memorized that in high school, too.
