Salads

Oriental Salad (a delicious alternative to cole slaw)

1 cabbage, shredded
1 3 oz. pkg ramen noodles (I use chicken flavor)
1 tbsp sesame seeds
sm. bag of slivered almonds

Dressing:
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
3 tbsp vinegar
1/2 c oil
Toast sesame seeds and almonds for 6 min @ 350 on a flat pan (check, they burn easily)
Mix dressing ingredients, plus seasoning from ramen noodles. Don't cook noodles, just crunch and add to salad ingredients before serving
Mix everything together shortly before serving to keep the noodles crunchy.

I am going to try that.  I will be leaving for Indiana a week from tomorrow for my sisters reunion.  I have two sisters and it is my turn to host the event.  My sister and her husband in Indiana are in bad health and cannot drive down here so I offered to come there to have it.  The theme is going to be Around the World in Three Days.   I am doing an Asian meal for one of the meals and this recipe would be great to go along with it.  I have made place mats like the flags of the different countries we will visit.
Thanks for this recipe.
I will post some of the ones I am using.

BLT Salad

Just made this the other day. So Good!

4 c. cooked pasta (adjust more or less according to taste)
1/2 lb. bacon
chopped tomatoes (2 med., but this be a little much for some people)
2c. chopped lettuce
1/2 c. mayo or Miracle Whip if you prefer

Cook bacon until crisp, reserve 2 Tbsp drippings; drain on a paper tower; and crumble when cool. Mix 2 T. drippings with pasta. Stir in mayo, then tomatoes, and bacon. Add lettuce right before serving. Almost a meal in itself. If you like blt sandwiches, you will love this salad!
